Five years ago today my friends Denis and Trish were killed in a car accident on their way home from dinner. Denis hit an icy patch on a downgrade in the road and spun helplessly into the path of an oncoming pickup truck.
I've resisted the urge on anniversaries past to focus on anything but how great these two wonderful people were, and this year is no different. So all I'll say is that the county knew for two days that meteorologists were calling for icy rain that evening, yet even at 8 pm there wasn't so much as a granule of salt on the roads.
I'll be at ABC Liquors in California, Md., tonight serving up some free chili and promoting my spice mix. There's one round on me for anyone who'd like to raise a glass to Denis and Trish.
