Barack Obama is set to announce that the timetable to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq has been extended to August 31, 2010, and that "as many as 50,000 Marines and soldiers would remain until the end of 2011."
My prediction? The August 2010 timetable itself will be extended, probably several times, and the U.S. won't simply have a military presence in Iraq until 2011, but at least 50 years after that.
And you just have to love the state's word games. You can't exactly call a timetable to withdraw troops a plan for "withdrawal" when you intend to leave tens of thousands of troops behind.
