Pepper Sauce Selected by Hot Sauce Club

In a bit of good news -- great news, actually -- T-Rev's Stiff Willi Chili Pepper Sauce was selected this week as Amazing Clubs' Hot Sauce of the Month Club offering for March!

My distributor, Peppers in Rehoboth Beach, DE, informs me that the club has placed an order for 200 cases, meaning that over 2,000 club members will be getting a bottle of my pepper sauce next month.

This could be just the break I've been hoping for since the release of my pepper sauce last summer, as some of the most serious hot sauce enthusiasts across the country will get a chance to discover the unique balance of flavor and heat that sets us apart from the rest.

How long have you been in business?

T-Rev’s Stiff Willi Chili (the brand) made its debut in May 2009 at the DC101 Chili Cook-Off, and our spice mix was launched in September 2009. If I can overcome Maryland’s oppressive personal and business taxes, I anticipate sticking with this for as long as my customers will have me.

How did you get started?

This is a pretty funny story. I live in Maryland and for years I’d heard about the DC101 Chili Cook-Off in Washington, DC but had rarely given it a second thought. Until late 2008. As a huge fan of cooking and eating in general, I decided I might as well try my hand at a chili cook-off and see how well my recipe stacks up against all the big guys (the 2008 DC101 Chili Cook-Off was won by Jim Parker, owner of the Hard Times Café, a small empire of chili parlors in the DC metro area). So I signed up for the 2009 DC regional chili cook-off and it was on.

Due of the relative success of our spice mix and the fact that it contains a medium heat level, I figured what better way to expand our product line than to offer customers a means of kicking up their T-Rev's Stiff Willi Chili -- and other foods, of course -- than to offer a hot sauce under a brand that guarantees only the finest flavors and ingredients?

During experimentation with the recipe, we've found that T-Rev's Stiff Willi Chili Pepper Sauce is a fantastic accompaniment to our chili, but it also goes great on eggs, tacos, pizza, chicken wings, and anything else that needs some extra zing. Chef Robert Hesse Digs T-Rev's Stiff Willi Chili

Chef Robert Hesse, Hell's Kitchen finalist and new executive chef at Catamarans Restaurant on Solomons Island, Md., poses for a quick shot tonight in his T-Rev's Stiff Willi Chili shirt. I didn't want to bother the chef and his staff too long as they prepared for this weekend's grand re-opening, so I just snapped this shot with my phone.

Catamarans also carries T-Rev's Stiff Willi Spice Mix and I'll be there every Sunday for football. This weekend I'll be showing up with free chili in time for the 4:00 games.
 

Free Chili Weekend!

I will be at Wildewood Wine and Spirits this Friday night (Oct. 30) in California, MD giving away free chili samples, so stop by for a taste if you're running out to stock up the liquor cabinet.

Then on Saturday, come see me at Woodburns grocery store in Solomons around 1:00 p.m. This time could slide an hour either way pending the finalization of a potential appointment that day, but I'll be there for at least two hours and I promise it will be between noon and 4:00.

Stiff Willi in the News

Local southern Maryland news site The Bay Net throws T-Rev's Stiff Willi Chili some love today with an article chronicling my participation in the ICS World's Championship Chili Cookoff two weekends ago in addition to my new T-Rev's Stiff Willi Chili Spice Mix, which is for sale on my website here.

I do need to clarify a couple things from the article though. It implies that the Chili Chicks are affiliated with me, that I use them to help spread the word about my spice mix. However, this is not the case; the Chili Chicks are an independent dance team from Florida who were at the cookoff and hung out with us at my tent for a while.

Also, my friend "B-Rich" who is mentioned in the piece is Brian Richards, a good buddy of mine from college who coined the name "T-Rev."

So, welcome Baynet readers. Please have a look around the blog and website and let me know what you think. Considering my spice mix has only been on the market for about a month and a half, this blog is in its very nascent stages and is intended to be a fun, user-friendly interface for Stiff Willi friends and fans.
