Bad news, chili lovers. For the second weekend in a row, I've had to cancel chili promotions due to massive snowstorms in the forecast. In Southern Maryland. During the run-up to the Super Bowl, no less (thankfully chili and football don't go hand-in-hand -- pshaw!).
Last weekend we got at least a foot of snow, and while I did make it to Bowen's grocery store for a couple hours, I ended up canceling my gig at Guido's Liquor in Huntingtown because by that point no one was venturing out of the house for booze. So we rescheduled for this Saturday. And wouldn't you know it, they're actually calling for 12-24" (!) by early weekend. Alas, I've essentially been forced to reschedule Guido's again, so we're going to shoot for next Saturday, Feb. 13.
This snow is insane and virtually unheard of here in Maryland. I left Buffalo in the mid-'90s specifically to escape this crap, and believe it or not, I'm pretty sure we've already gotten more snow so far this winter than they have in upstate N.Y. My mother told me the other day that they haven't even really gotten a foot combined yet this year, and she only lives about 80 miles south of Buffalo. We here in good ol' SOMD will be shooting for four feet by Sunday.
Unreal. And entirely untimely. The Super Bowl is like manna from heaven when you sell a chili spice mix, so it's just fantastic that I'll be spending the weekend digging out of snow instead of pumping out free samples of chili before the big game!
UPDATE: Oh boy. Maryland looks really tiny compared to that front coming through.
