First pick in next year's draft, that is.
I actually want the Sabres to lose every single game for the rest of the year. I think they can do it if they really try, but even this team will probably fall ass backward into a few more wins. From a fan perspective, if you can't finish first, you might as well finish dead last. It's only logical. How many times would you've rather not even made the playoffs than had to suffer gut-wrenching conference finals losses?
Not only should we all want Buffalo to get the first pick when the playoffs are no longer a reality, but I’m literally afraid that unless the team drums home its ineptitude by losing the rest of its games, ownership will refuse to clean house.
This team needs a complete and total rebuild, from the GM on down to the coach and players. You could start to sense the stagnation a couple seasons ago, but the stench is front and center now.
On the bright side, it's fun to get something brand new, so ownership and its new management team should enjoy this opportunity because it doesn't come along every day. It's like when you buy a new car. You're always excited to drive it home for the first time and show it off.
The 2006 Buffalo Sabres were fresh and clean and new. They were an exciting new model. But the 2011 Buffalo Sabres are now just old and boring -- we're stuck paying off the same loan as we were before, only now with all the dents and scratches.
It's time to trade in this jalopy for a shiny, new 2012 model. No better way than to grab a superstar with the first pick overall and go from there.
